A new lodge opens in South Africa’s Kruger National Park

Royal Malewane in South Africa’s Kruger National Park is the stuff of hospitality legend, a lodge whose elegant interiors (signed Liz Biden, its owner and a nationally renowned designer) are matched in quality by a guide team that has one of the highest qualification levels on the continent. As of last month there’s a sister lodge, some 12 miles to the south: The Farmstead (from about £1,450), where the decor takes things up a notch with ebullient colour and an abundance of contemporary art. When the drives are done, the three standalone lodge suites and four-bedroom “Farmhouse” villa entice with plunge pools and wide veld views from shaded verandas scattered with throw pillows and dhurries.
